Britain’s current and former elite athletes have named gymnast OndineAchampong as their Athlete of the Month for March after she swept up at theBritish Championships.
Ondine, 20, put in a remarkable performance by collecting four national titles. She collected golds in all-around, followed by floor, beam and uneven bars, later telling the BBC she’d worked to build her confidence and mindset from the start of the year.
“It's been a big thing for me,” she said. “Previously I've been on andoff a bit mentally but I now have a mindset coach and she's really helped meturn my mental attitude into a strength.”
Ondine’s success topped a poll among current and former elite British athletes to decide who on the World Class Programme deserved most recognition for their successes last month.
Ondine was shortlisted alongside Molly Caudery (athletics), Chris Grube and Vita Heathcote (sailing), and Lizzi Jordan and pilot Dannielle Khan (para-cycling).
The Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award is given to elite British sportspeople on behalf of World Class Programme athletes by the BEAA for their achievements in competition or elsewhere, such as personal development, inspiring comebacks, charity work, awareness raising and more.
It celebrates successes across elite British sport, and commends more than just competitive accomplishment – with every winner decided by the athlete community.
