The British Elite Athletes Association is delighted to welcome Martin Fewell as its latest Non-Executive Director.As Chief Engagement Officer at London Business School (LBS), Martin brings a wealth of experience in communication and advocacy to the BEAA Board. He leads a team responsible for engaging a global alumni community and building the School’s reputation and influence to advance the interests of all its members. His insight will prove valuable as the BEAA continues to develop its support for World Class Programme athletes and our alumni network.Martin began his career as a journalist with the BBC, working for Radio 4 and TV News where he was a launch editor for the BBC News channel. He later joined ITN (Channel 4 News) as Programme Editor and then Deputy Editor before becoming Director of Media and Communications for the Metropolitan Police in 2012.In 2017 Martin moved into sports, working for the British Horseracing Authority until 2021, when he was appointed as Chief Communication Officer at LBS.Joining an 11-strong Board containing four current and former athletes, Martin is keenly interested in sports himself, running half-marathons and parkruns in and around his hometown of Marlow in Buckinghamshire. He also enjoys kayaking and coastal walking and has competed at Endure24.Commenting on Martin’s appointment, BEAA Chair Dominic Mahony said: “I’m delighted that someone with Martin’s knowledge and experience will contribute to the BEAA as we continue to support, represent and empower Britain’s elite athletes.“We are continually developing as an organisation with a highly specialised Board to guide our direction, and I know Martin’s involvement will only strengthen our efforts. I look forward to working with him and would like to welcome him to the BEAA.”Martin added: “As an avid follower of many sports, I’m really pleased to join an organisation that does such important work for this country’s elite athletes. The BEAA is moving in an exciting direction, and I look forward to helping the team further engage and represent their members, especially with such a vital year ahead.
