The BAC has today published its 2021 Annual Review, which reveals that the organisation saw a 98% increase in casework compared to the previous 12 months (reporting period: 1 November 2020 - 31 October 2021).
The last 12 months have seen the organisation offer increased support to athletes struggling with the effects of the COVID pandemic, and building up to summer (Tokyo) and winter (Beijing) Olympic and Paralympic Games.Over the course of the Tokyo Games, the BAC was commissioned by the British Olympic Association (BOA) and British Paralympic Association (BPA) to deliver independent, 24-hour support to British athletes in Japan. At the time, this was heralded by BAC Chair Vicki Aggar as a ‘hugely encouraging’ step in athlete welfare taking on new significance and importance within British sport, and that opinion was reflected by our members, when questioned as part of our annual Athlete Survey in October. When asked whether they perceive that there has been a positive shift in attitude towards athlete welfare and wellbeing in Great Britain, in comparison to 12 months ago, 73.72% of respondents answered ‘yes’.In October, UK Sport confirmed that the BAC would receive an increase in funding as it looks to continue this progress, and Aggar uses the organisation’s Annual Review to reinforce the BAC’s commitment to ‘constantly evaluating and improving the services’ it offers to British athletes. The full Annual Review document is available to view above, or is accessible here.
