The BAC is pleased to confirm that England and Great Britain women’s hockey captain, Hollie Pearne-Webb, has joined the organisation’s Board of Directors.Pearne-Webb – formerly an ambassador for the organisation – has taken up one of the Athlete Non-Executive Director positions on the Board, and will provide crucial athlete input as the organisation continues to develop and evolve in order to meet the diversifying needs of Britain’s elite athletes. The Olympic gold (Rio) and bronze (Tokyo) medallist said:“I am thrilled to be joining the BAC board as a Non-Executive Athlete Director, especially at a time when the BAC’s agenda has never been so important. I am deeply passionate about athlete wellbeing and supporting the human at the centre of the performance.” The BAC – the independent body which represents Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes – now plays a more integral role within the high-performance system than ever before, having seen its level of athlete casework double over the last 12 months alone. This contribution to the system has been recognised by UK Sport, who awarded the BAC increased funding to ensure that it can continue to meet demand and comprehensively support athletes looking ahead to both Beijing 2022 and Paris 2024.On the BAC’s role, Pearne-Webb added:“The increase in the BAC’s work in the last 12 months shows that athletes are finding their voice, and increasingly feeling like they can speak out about issues and things that they are passionate about.“In this new role, I am extremely determined to play my part in driving this forward, and ensuring that athletes are placed being at the very centre of all decisions.”Vicki Aggar, Chair of the BAC, believes that the appointment will strengthen the organisation as it continues to push for tangible, positive change within British sport.“We're absolutely delighted to welcome Hollie to the BAC Board. The accolades and titles that she has accrued during her hockey career speak for themselves, but it is her unmistakable passion for championing the athlete voice and creating an environment in which sportspeople can truly thrive - as both athletes and people, that will make her such an asset to our organisation.”She continued: “As an experienced member - and now captain - of a Great Britain squad, she has seen first-hand the progress that has been made within the British high-performance system in recent years, and shares our determination to continue that progress and to truly establish Great Britain as a world leader in the area of athlete welfare and wellbeing.”The BAC’s Board is made up of Beijing Paralympian Aggar (Chair), Pearne-Webb, Dougie Dryburgh (Senior Independent Non-Executive Director), Jennifer Nel (Finance), Peter Crowther (Legal), Dr Rod Jaques (Athlete Welfare and Health), Milan Sud and Simon Freedman (Commercial) and Sarah Newton (Chief Operating Officer) with further appointments to be confirmed in due course.
