UK Sport work with UK Government, sport and hosting partners to bid for and host major sporting events in the UK. These events help provide opportunities for British athletes to compete in high-level competition on home soil, whilst also delivering benefits to the communities in which events are hosted. Some examples of events UK Sport have supported in recent years include, World Indoor Athletics Championships (2024), Hockey Pro League (2024), Canoe Slalom World Championships (2023), UCI World Cycling Championships and non-Olympic or Paralympic events such as the Rugby League World Cup (2022).
Support powering positive change and social impact through sport
As an organisation UK Sport recognises the role sport can play in having a wider social impact. To support their ambitions in this area they undertake a variety of initiatives to create change in relation to equality, diversity and inclusion, environmental sustainability and wellbeing. This also includes activity that supports athletes in creating positive change and using their voice, such as their Powered By Purpose programme.
