The British Elite Athletes Association has launched the Athletes’ Athlete of the Year award to allow the country’s leading sportspeople to recognise their peers on the World Class Programme.

In a year to be proud of for elite British sport, athletes excelled in and out of competition, breaking new records, overcoming personal adversity, and using their positions to better the sporting world. Now they can pick two fellow athletes who have stood out from 12 months to remember in the only athlete-led award across all Olympic and Paralympic sport.

How it works

Elite and former elite athletes are in charge of this award, choosing the nominees and the winners.

Who can nominate who?

Current elite British athletes will be able to nominate their choice via their BEAA newsletter. Former elite athletes can do so through the British Elite Athletes Alumni app.All nominated athletes must have been on the World Class Programme at any point in 2023.

What happens next?

Olympic champion and BEAA CEO Anna Watkins will shortlist the final nominees. All current and former elite British athletes will then be able to vote for a male and female winner, again via email and the alumni app respectively.

The nominated shortlist will be published in mid-December, with the winners confirmed in early 2024. The winners will receive personalised trophies on behalf of the BEAA and our members past and present.
