As Pride Month begins today (June 1st), the British Elite Athletes Association has published its LGBTQ+ mission statement to reaffirm our commitment to supporting and empowering every member of the elite athlete community.

Our mission is to establish a robust LGBTQ+ network for elite British athletes, built on the principles of support, inclusivity, and allyship. We are dedicated to creating a safe and empowering community that champions the rights and well-being of LGBTQ+ athletes across our membership.

By encouraging connections, providing resources, and facilitating dialogue, we aim to promote understanding, acceptance, and celebration of diverse sexual orientations and identities within the high performance sport system.

Through active engagement with athletes, NGBs, and allies, we strive to create an environment where LGBTQ+ athletes can thrive. We recognise that athlete identity and their sexual orientation and identity don’t have to be mutually exclusive, and that support to be their true authentic selves can only benefit athlete well-being and performance. Our goal is to create a community where all LGBTQ+ athletes feel seen, heard, and valued.

Here at the BEAA we pride ourselves on being an organisation for athletes and supported by athletes. We have recently appointed Robyn Love as our LGBTQ+ Ambassador and Michael Gunning as our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Ambassador to ensure athlete voice is at the heart of our support.

We recognise the importance of peer-to-peer connection and welcome you to engage in our LGBTQ+ network. If you want to reach out to Robyn directly, you can contact her here: beaa.lgbtq@britisheliteathletes.org
