Elite British athletes have voted bobsleigh pilot Brad Hall as their Athlete of the Month for February 2023.With roughly 1,150 BEAA members from over 40 sports contacted to vote, Hall earned the trophy following a month in which he and his teammates secured several remarkable achievements for Great Britain.Hall and his four-man bobsleigh team ended a phenomenal 2022/23 season by finishing second in the World Championships – Britain’s first four-man World Championships medal in 84 years – and the World Cup.He became just the fourth male pilot to lead Great Britain to a World Championship medal and the first since Frederick McEvoy in 1939.A few weeks later, Team Hall, featuring Taylor Lawrence and Greg Cackett, also claimed Britain’s first two-man bobsleigh overall medal by finishing third in the World Cup.They finished the season on 1,582 points, almost 200 clear of Switzerland’s Michel Vogt in fourth and behind only World Champion Johannes Lochner and Olympic Champion Francesco Friedrich.Earlier in the year Hall also collected gold in the European Championships alongside his four-man crew. These accomplishments continue Hall’s upward trajectory since he first took up bobsleigh in 2011/12, putting him and his teammates at the top of the sport less than four years after losing their funding. After that, Team Hall became self-funded and self-managed for three years, pulled themselves through the pandemic and competed well at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Commenting on his Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award, Hall said: “It’s a massive surprise to be nominated in the first place and an even bigger one to be able to win it. It’s definitely a massive accomplishment. It feels good to know you’ve been voted Athletes’ Athlete of the Month by your fellow peers and other athletes within Great Britain, and shows how well we’re doing at the moment... It’s a nice surprise to end the season with.“I told the [rest of Team Hall] we’ve won Athletes’ Athlete [of the Month]. Even though it may be my name there, it’s a team effort. I wouldn’t be here winning those races without them, so even though it’s my name there it’s a whole team effort. If I won this, then we all won.”Hall topped a nominee list comprised of Mia Brookes (snowboarding), Hannah Cockroft OBE (wheelchair racing) and Max Whitlock OBE (gymnastics), each of whom enjoyed commendable personal months. The Athletes’ Athlete of the Month award is given to elite British sportspeople for their achievements in competition or elsewhere, such as personal development, inspiring comebacks, charity work, awareness raising and more.Thank you to every athlete that voted, and congratulations to Brad for winning, as well as to Mia, Hannah and Max for their nomination.Elite British athletes, to cast your vote next time, keep an eye on your emails from the BEAA.|https://britisheliteathletes.org/athlete-support/|
