The BAC is delighted to confirm Hannah Cockroft, Laura Deas and Adam Gemili as its 2021 athlete ambassadors. The trio will work alongside the organisation to ensure that the athlete voice is constantly championed, and that the services that the BAC provides continue to fit the evolving needs of our membership.Five-time Paralympic champion Cockroft, who returns for her second year as a BAC athlete ambassador, said:“My first 12 months as an athlete ambassador for the BAC coincided with the organisation’s busiest-ever year. The fact that more and more athletes are seeing the value of, and putting their trust in the BAC is fantastic news, and I’m looking forward to helping the organisation develop its offering as it continues to provide an essential support mechanism for athletes over the next 12 months.”Deas, along with the rest of the British winter sport community, is currently preparing for Beijing 2022, which for her would represent a second Olympic Games, and a chance to add to the skeleton bronze medal she won in Pyeongchang in 2018.She said:“I'm really excited and honoured to take on this role with the BAC. I've been aware of their brilliant work for a number of years now and can't wait to help support their vital service to British athletes.”Gemili, a former World and European champion and a double Olympian, is a member of the BOA Athletes’ Commission, and a passionate advocate for athletes’ rights. He said:“I’ve always been a strong advocate for athletes being able to use their voice to bring about positive change both in sport and wider society, and in many ways, that’s never been more important than it is now. The BAC does great work in helping to develop athlete representation and the collective athlete voice, so I’m delighted to become an ambassador, and to help them continue this progress.”The BAC’s Athlete Engagement Manager, double Olympian Kristian Thomas, oversees the work done by the organisation on athlete representation and athlete voice, and believes that the ambassadors will be able to play a vital role as 2021 develops. He added:“We’re really pleased to have Hannah, Laura and Adam on board. All three have huge amounts of experience, and extensive knowledge of the importance of athlete voice and athlete experience.“As an organisation, we saw more athletes than ever turning to the BAC in 2020. Being able to maintain a high quality, consistent and reliable service to the athletes who put their trust in us is our highest priority, and we’re thrilled to be able to call upon three such distinguished athletes to help us do just that.”
