NSPCC Helpline for Gymnastics

In light of the very troubling mistreatment allegations emerging within gymnastics, we are focusing our efforts to ensure there is a safe space for all those impacted to access support and guidance once you make the brave decision to speak out

The first step in this process was to launch a free and confidential helpline in partnership with the NSPCC (0800 056 0566).  Staffed by independent, trained NSPCC counsellors, the helpline is offering support and guidance for anyone involved with gymnastics who have safeguarding concerns–acting as a single point of contact for individuals to lodge their concerns, regardless of whether you are a funded athlete, former funded athlete, community-level athlete or a parent. The helpline is also a safe space for any further whistleblowing and will offer the opportunity to input into the recently announced Independent Review at the appropriate time.

The dedicated NSPCC Helpline is the first component of our newly-established Athlete Support Unit. The Unit, which, once fully established, will offer full administrative and welfare support to those cases referred to it and will provide end-to-end support to athletes and families affected by the allegations of abuse.

 The helpline is available at 8am-10pm on weekdays and 9am-6pm on weekends on 0800 056 0566. Trained staff will offer support, advice, and guidance, and will refer cases on to other agencies as appropriate, which may include the police & local authorities.

If you are considering getting in touch, please be assured that your concerns will be taken seriously and managed appropriately. We acknowledge that this is likely to be a very challenging time for you and may take a great degree of courage to take this step.  To reassure you, please see some positive feedback from individuals who have made the call to the helpline;

“Please reach out to the helpline, it is really important. They were very kind and concerned about the things I had endured and will help in any way they can! Xx”

“The team are kind and want to help in any way they can prior to independent review. I was scared to call but feel reassured that they are doing the right thing for athletes. Please share and reach out to talk to them.”
