Transition

Our support lasts for six months after coming off-programme and we provide an alumni community.
We fully support our members for up to six months after they come off-programme, and every former World Class Programme athlete can join our alumni platform to access a digital community and opportunities for life after elite sport.

We can help to refer athletes to a range of services, including mental health support, as they transition, or involve the right Performance Lifestyle practitioner. This support lasts for six months after an athlete's transition funding ends.

Athletes can also access support via Performance Lifestyle Futures and Health Assured for up to two years after their funding ends.

Support pathway

So, what happens when you reach out to the BEAA about coming off-programme? Most importantly, we’ll always try to help.

That might be direct, end-to-end support with your issue through a dedicated Athlete Support Manager, or signposting to someone else who can help you.

We’ll always be there for our members. Find out what happens when you contact us below.

  1. You contact the BEAA for support, or are referred with consent by your NGB.
  2. One of our Athlete Support Managers will respond, usually via email, within one working day.
  3. We will arrange a time to speak to you over the phone to understand your request in your words and ensure we can provide the best support possible.
  4. If your issue is about your safety or someone else’s safety, we follow statutory processes, which may involve a referral to the police, a Local Authority Designated Officer, or the children’s services. This will be done with your consent where possible, and we will provide ongoing confidential advice and support.
  5. If your issue is not about safety and we can support you, we ask you to sign a service-level agreement, and provide support or signposting tailored to your needs. This may include your Performance Lifestyle practitioner.
  6. If you have left your programme, you will be invited to join our digital alumni community. There you can connect with other former World Class Programme athletes and access supportive resources.
  7. Our support remains available for six months after your World Class Programme funding ends. You can join our alumni community any time.
